LifeandLeadership.com Summary

This is the second book of the One-Minute Manager series (see original volume). The story illustrates how the three secrets of the one-minute manager – goal-setting, praises, and reprimands – play out in actual work situations. It addresses the chief difficulty in using the secrets – turning the three secrets into skills. It suggests that practicing the right combination of these principles requires paying the P.R.I.C.E.:

  • Pinpoint where performance should be improved.
  • Record the current performance.
  • Involve the person involved in setting goals and how reviews and coaching will occur.
  • Coach people to improve results.
  • Evaluate the performance to reinforce the good and replace the not so good.

One-Minute Manager is part of Blanchard’s model of Situational Leadership. It is the base of most of Blanchard’s works, all of which express Empowering Leadership. Blanchard has also written extensively on the subject of Servant Leadership.
