LifeandLeadership.com Summary

This is an excellent exegetical work on 1 Corinthians 12-14, setting all of the individual passages associated with spiritual gifts into their context. Of special value is his discussion on 1 Corinthians 13, which emphasizes love in the use of the spiritual gifts and overall conduct in the assembly. He also discusses two of the most controversial spiritual gifts: tongues and prophecy. He is not a strict cessationist, although most of his conclusions lean that direction. Typical of Carson, he is reasonable, respectful, scholarly, and applies his insights well to congregational life.

This, alongside works by Gordon Fee and J. I. Packer provide excellent instruction on the role of the Holy Spirit.

From the Publisher

Partisans on both sides of charismatic issues are challenged by the even-handed consideration of nuances in the Greek text in these three crucial chapters.
