Michael R. Milco, Ethical Dilemmas in Church Leadership: Case Studies in Biblical Decision Making. Kregel Academic and Professional, 1997.

Reference in: Ministry Ethics

LifeandLeadership.com Summary

Milco provides theological and philosophical foundations for ethics, as well as an understanding of how one’s personality, church tradition, and cultural and congregational contexts interrelate. One special feature is the “Decision-Making Tower” as a tool to unravel complex issues. These sections are helpful, but the greatest strength is the case studies for one’s own reflection. The cases cover issues such as abuse, AIDS, infidelity, confidentiality, finances, homosexuality, etc. The appendices are also helpful, including sample ethical guidelines for dealing with child abuse, infectious diseases, etc. A good self-assessment tool in the back measures one’s propensities in patterns predicting pastoral infidelity.
