LifeandLeadership.com Summary

This is an excellent, readable primer on the meaning of the term, “Kingdom of God.” Witherington’s thrust is that the Kingdom of God can only come through the powerful intervention of God, which must be the constant focus of our prayers as Jesus instructed, “Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” The Kingdom is not a social agenda, a political accomplishment, or a military victory, but the in-breaking of God on earth. This elevates the earth and our physical existence insofar as God is interested, and thus involves care for the planet. Witherington also proposes a renewal of the liturgical practice of “Kingdomtide” as a means of reminding Christians of God’s desire for the world.

From the Publisher

What is the kingdom of God? Where is it? How should the church celebrate the coming of the kingdom? In this popularly written study Ben Witherington addresses these and various other questions about the ever-elusive kingdom of God. Clearly defining the kingdom in terms of Gods dominion, Witherington discusses both its present (already) and future (not yet) dimensions, and he brings out at length the implications of kingdom thinking for theology, ethics, and worship. Filled with practical wisdom on the kingdom of God and how to celebrate it faithfully, Imminent Domain fills a real niche.
